2027 NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi has asked the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, to make his academic documents available to the public following reports of legal efforts to obtain them. The Peter Obi academic records include documents connected to his admission, studies and degree at the institution.
Obi made the request in a statement on Tuesday, saying he had no objection to the university releasing his Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, which he said he obtained in 1984, alongside other relevant records.
His reaction followed reports circulating online that an individual or group had initiated legal action seeking Certified True Copies of his university certificate and other academic documents.
According to Obi, UNN should honour any legitimate request for the Peter Obi academic records, provided such disclosure is carried out within the provisions of the law.
He also said he would not oppose other educational institutions he attended in Nigeria and abroad releasing his records, as long as the proper legal procedures are followed.
Obi stressed that transparency and accountability should be expected from anyone seeking public office, particularly those aspiring to occupy Nigeria’s highest political position.
He said public scrutiny should, however, be conducted fairly, lawfully and consistently across all candidates.
The former Anambra State governor added that he welcomed legitimate public interest in his background, qualifications and public record as he seeks the confidence of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Obi also called on other presidential contenders to make their educational qualifications and relevant documents available for public scrutiny.
He argued that releasing the Peter Obi academic records and similar documents belonging to other candidates should be seen as a way of strengthening public confidence rather than as a political attack.
According to Obi, openness, integrity, accountability and respect for institutions should remain central to leadership.
He maintained that anyone asking Nigerians to entrust them with power must be ready to demonstrate the same transparency and accountability expected from the society they intend to lead.
Obi reaffirmed his willingness to face reasonable scrutiny of his academic background, insisting that such examination should help strengthen public trust in political leaders and institutions.
