Two separate fire outbreaks in Ikorodu and Surulere areas of Lagos State have destroyed shops and goods worth millions of naira, according to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA).
The Lagos fire outbreaks occurred on Monday, with emergency officials confirming that no deaths or injuries were recorded in either incident.
LASEMA Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, disclosed the incidents in a statement, explaining that the first fire started at Adamo Bus Stop in Ikorodu during the early hours of the day.
According to him, the fire, suspected to have been caused by faulty electrical wiring, began in a hairdressing shop before spreading to two neighbouring businesses.
Three shops were affected, with merchandise and other property worth millions of naira destroyed.
Responders from LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Imota, were deployed to the scene and successfully contained the blaze.
Oke-Osanyintolu said emergency personnel also carried out dampening-down operations to prevent the fire from reigniting.
Later that morning, another fire broke out at 19 Olatunde Onimole Street, close to Bakery Bus Stop in Surulere.

The incident affected two shops selling furniture and provisions. Both businesses were reportedly completely destroyed, including their contents.
The cause of the Surulere fire remained unknown at the time of the report.
Emergency officials again carried out post-fire operations to ensure that the affected premises did not pose a risk of renewed flames.
The Lagos fire outbreaks formed part of several emergencies handled by LASEMA teams across the state between Sunday and Monday.
In another incident, the agency’s Alpha Eagle Response Team attended to a truck that developed a mechanical fault at Olupese Bus Stop, inward Cappa, on Sunday afternoon.
The truck, which was transporting soft drinks, obstructed traffic until responders worked with the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority and the Nigeria Police to remove it.
Using LASEMA’s heavy-duty Super Metro equipment, the vehicle was recovered to a lay-by, allowing traffic to flow normally again.
Also on Sunday, the agency’s Tiger Squad responded to an accident on the Third Mainland Bridge, inward Obalende, involving a yellow commercial bus that overturned following a reported tyre burst.
The vehicle was towed to the LASTMA yard at Olowu, while LASEMA paramedics and LASAMBUS personnel provided medical assistance to those affected.
In the early hours of Monday, responders also evacuated an empty tanker that had broken down and obstructed traffic on Ilupeju Road, inward Cappa.
The tanker was moved to a nearby lay-by with assistance from the police and LASEMA’s recovery team.
Oke-Osanyintolu praised the emergency agencies involved in managing the incidents, including the fire service, LASTMA, LASAMBUS, the police and the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.
He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s commitment to improving emergency response through staff training, modern equipment and the expansion of LASEMA response units.
The permanent secretary also urged residents to maintain their vehicles properly and observe electrical safety precautions to prevent avoidable emergencies.
