The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has refuted widespread reports claiming that its Group Chairman, Tony Elumelu, has separated from his wife, describing the story as completely untrue.

In a statement released by the bank’s spokesperson, Alero Ladipo, UBA said the allegations were fabricated and intentionally circulated to mislead the public while damaging the reputation of its chairman.

The bank further disclosed that security agencies have already taken action, confirming the arrest of three individuals allegedly linked to the creation and spread of the false claims. Investigations, according to the statement, are ongoing and may result in additional arrests and prosecutions.

UBA cautioned members of the public and online platforms to immediately stop sharing the misinformation and delete any related content. It also warned that anyone who continues to circulate the false report risks facing legal consequences, including defamation suits and other penalties under the law.

Reaffirming its stance, the bank emphasized its commitment to protecting the integrity, privacy, and reputation of both its brand and its chairman, noting that all necessary legal steps will be taken to hold those responsible accountable.
