President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has returned to Nigeria after ending his extended working vacation in Europe, with Lagos as his first destination.
The President departed Paris, France, on Tuesday, September 29, and was expected to arrive at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos later in the evening, according to the Presidency.
Tinubu left Abuja on August 30 for his working vacation. He initially spent a week in London before continuing to Paris, where he held several official and business-related engagements.
Tinubu returns to Lagos
The Presidency said Tinubu chose to return through Lagos to honour the memory of the late Chief MKO Abiola, who was the presumed winner of the June 1993 presidential election.
As part of the Independence Day activities, the President is scheduled to attend the premiere of a film about Abiola at the Wole Soyinka National Theatre in Iganmu, Lagos.
Beyond the commemorative event, Tinubu returns to Lagos with a series of political engagements ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Presidency said he is expected to meet political leaders and associates during his stay in the state before eventually returning to Abuja.
Tinubu’s meetings in Paris
During his time in Paris, Tinubu met French President Emmanuel Macron at a private dinner.
He also held discussions with Vincent Bolloré of the Bolloré Group on investments in Nigeria’s creative and digital economy. The State House previously said the group planned to deepen its operations in areas including film, entertainment and fibre-optic infrastructure.
Tinubu also met businessman Femi Otedola during his stay in the French capital.
The President further witnessed the signing of agreements between the Ogun State Government and DP World for the development of the Gateway Deep Seaport and the Blue Marine Special Economic Zone in Ogun Waterside.
According to the Presidency, DP World plans to invest more than $7 billion in the projects.
President to return to Abuja
After completing his political engagements in Lagos, Tinubu is expected to return to Abuja.
His return ends a working vacation that began on August 30 and was later extended by several days.
