Nigerian social media personality Blessing Okoro, popularly known as Blessing CEO, has denied authorising a ₦56 million fundraiser following the death of her second son, Bryan Onyedikachi.
Blessing reportedly confirmed her son’s death during a phone conversation with Nollywood actress Doris Ogala. She also said she never gave anyone permission to announce the tragedy or solicit money on her behalf.
The controversy followed a viral video by Amira Agiye, CEO of the Isaamira Foundation, in which she announced Bryan’s death and appealed for financial support for Blessing.
Blessing CEO denies fundraiser
According to reports of the phone conversation, Blessing said she was not aware of the fundraising effort and did not authorise Agiye to speak on her behalf.
“I didn’t give anybody consent. And I think I’m in the best position to break the news of my son’s death, not an entire stranger,” she said.
Blessing also denied claims that she was personally seeking financial assistance to meet her bail conditions.
The reported fundraiser sought ₦56 million, with some reports saying the amount was linked to bail requirements and other outstanding financial obligations. However, Blessing has now distanced herself from the appeal.
Doris Ogala reacts
Following the denial, Doris Ogala advised people who had donated through the appeal to request their money back.
Ogala said Blessing had not asked Agiye to raise funds for her. She also described the claim that Blessing was soliciting ₦56 million as false and fraudulent.
The conflicting accounts have raised questions about who authorised the fundraising campaign and the use of Blessing CEO’s name in the appeal.
Meanwhile, reports have confirmed that Blessing acknowledged the death of her son, although details surrounding the circumstances of his death have not been independently established in the reports reviewed.
