President Bola Tinubu has appointed Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni to a key position in the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign structure ahead of the 2027 general election.
Tinubu appoints Buni as Deputy Director-General (North) of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, placing the governor in charge of coordinating campaign activities across the 19 northern states.
The appointment was disclosed in a statement by Yusuf Ali, the focal person for digital and strategic communication to the Yobe State Government.
Buni gets major role in APC campaign
Buni’s new assignment is expected to make him one of the key figures in the APC’s efforts to strengthen its political structure across northern Nigeria.
According to the statement, the appointment reflects confidence in the governor’s political experience, organisational ability and knowledge of grassroots mobilisation across the region.

Akpabio, Abbas also get campaign roles
Buni will work alongside other senior political figures who have been given strategic responsibilities within the campaign council.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas have also been assigned roles as Deputy Directors-General of the council.
The campaign structure is expected to support the re-election bid of President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 presidential contest.
Buni brings APC leadership experience
The Yobe governor has previously held a major position within the ruling party, serving as national chairman of the APC.
His experience at the national level and his political networks in the North are expected to be useful to the party as it intensifies preparations for the next general election.
The North remains an important battleground for the APC, making grassroots mobilisation and coordination a central part of the party’s campaign strategy.
APC begins preparations for 2027
The appointment comes as political parties and various support groups increase their activities ahead of the 2027 elections.
For the APC, Buni’s assignment is expected to focus on consolidating the party’s support base across northern states while strengthening its campaign structures ahead of the presidential poll.
With the election approaching, the ruling party is likely to rely increasingly on experienced political figures to coordinate its nationwide mobilisation and build support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket.
