Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has undergone surgery to repair a ruptured tendon in his left hip and could spend at least three months on the sidelines.
The injury is a major setback for the Nigerian international, who now faces a lengthy recovery period that could rule him out of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) double-header against Tanzania later this month.
Italian Serie A club AC Milan confirmed the operation in an official statement released on Wednesday, November 4.
According to the club, Chukwueze underwent surgery in London to repair the damaged tendon in his left hip.
The club added that the winger would return to Italy to begin his rehabilitation programme.
Chukwueze Faces Lengthy Recovery After Surgery
Although AC Milan did not disclose an official recovery timeline, reports from Italy suggest that the 26-year-old could remain unavailable for at least three months.
The development means Chukwueze faces a difficult period as he works towards regaining full fitness.
The Nigerian winger initially received conservative treatment after picking up the injury during AC Milan’s Serie A meeting with Atalanta on October 18.
However, the initial treatment approach proved insufficient, making surgery necessary to address the ruptured tendon.
Chukwueze was substituted during that encounter after experiencing discomfort from the injury.
AFCON Qualifiers in Doubt for Super Eagles Winger
Chukwueze’s absence could affect Nigeria’s attacking options ahead of the upcoming 2027 AFCON qualifying double-header against Tanzania.
The Super Eagles will have to consider alternative options on the wings if the Milan forward remains unavailable.
His recovery will now depend on his rehabilitation progress and medical assessments in the coming weeks.
