
The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Tansian University, Umunya/Oba in Anambra State, Professor Cater Dike Umeoduagu, has died less than 24 hours after officially taking over the leadership of the institution.
Professor Umeoduagu was inaugurated as the Vice-Chancellor of Tansian University on Friday, October 2, 2026, but reportedly passed away in the early hours of the following day.
Sources familiar with the incident said the Professor of Microbiology became ill late Friday night and was pronounced dead at about 2 a.m. on Saturday, October 3.

The sudden death of the academic has thrown the university community into mourning, coming only hours after he assumed his new position.
Before his appointment as Vice-Chancellor, Umeoduagu served as Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the institution and played key roles in its administration.
Apart from his academic career, he was also active in politics. He represented Aguata I Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly during the Seventh Assembly.
