Pastor Leke Adeboye, son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has dismissed speculation that he is preparing to take over the leadership of the church from his father.
Leke addressed the issue while speaking to members of the church during a ministry programme at the YAYA Global Center in Redemption City.
He said being the son of the RCCG General Overseer does not mean he has an ambition to occupy the position in the future.
Leke Adeboye explains his role in RCCG
According to Leke, the position of General Overseer comes with enormous spiritual responsibilities and personal sacrifices.
He explained that people may see the public recognition that comes with the role, but they may not fully understand the discipline and demands involved in leading a global Christian organisation.
Leke cited his father’s lifestyle as an example of the demands attached to the position.
He noted that despite approaching 84, Pastor Adeboye remains heavily committed to spiritual activities. He said his father still undertakes prolonged dry fasts and wakes around 3 a.m. for prayer walks.
The younger pastor also pointed to the size of the RCCG, noting that the General Overseer carries responsibility for thousands of parishes and millions of worshippers around the world.
Why Leke Adeboye invests his energy in RCCG
Leke said his involvement in the affairs of the church should not be interpreted as an attempt to secure a leadership position.
He explained that his efforts are motivated by a sense of responsibility and a desire to support the work God has entrusted to his father.
Addressing those who question why he works to keep his father active and strong, Leke said his actions are influenced by the understanding that every person will ultimately answer to God.
He added that the positions he currently occupies are a result of divine grace and not something he takes for granted.
For Leke, the priority is therefore to remain faithful to his responsibilities and ensure that he can give a good account of himself before God, rather than pursue succession within the RCCG.
