Storytime | Part 1 of 2
This is a fictional story created for entertainment.
Adaeze had never believed that a single phone could change a marriage.
Until that Saturday morning.
For five years, she and her husband, Chinedu, had built what appeared to be a happy home. They had their disagreements like every other couple, but they always found a way to talk things through.
At least, that was what Adaeze believed.
Chinedu was the quiet type. He worked hard, rarely complained and was always willing to provide for the family. Adaeze had never had a reason to seriously question him.
But lately, something had changed.
He had started taking his phone everywhere.
The bathroom.
The kitchen.
Even when he stepped outside for just a few minutes, his phone went with him.
Whenever Adaeze asked about it, Chinedu laughed it off.
“Work has been stressful,” he would say.
She accepted the explanation.
Until the morning she found the second phone.
It was a bright Saturday, and Chinedu had left home early for work. Adaeze needed to run a few errands, so she decided to use his car.
She opened the back door to pick up a shopping bag she had left there the previous evening.
Then she saw it.
A black phone was lying underneath the passenger seat.
Adaeze picked it up.
At first, she assumed it belonged to Chinedu and that he had simply forgotten it in the car.
But something immediately felt strange.
The phone looked completely different from the one Chinedu normally used.
She pressed the power button.
The screen came on.
Locked.
She tried to ignore the feeling in her stomach.
Maybe it was an old work phone.
Maybe he had bought another phone and simply hadn’t told her.
Maybe there was a perfectly reasonable explanation.
Then a notification appeared.
“My Love ❤️: Are you sure she knows nothing?”
Adaeze froze.
She read the message again.
Then a second notification appeared.
“I miss you. Please don’t leave me waiting again.”
Her hands began to shake.
She looked around the empty compound as though someone might have seen her.
Who was “My Love”?
And who was the woman talking about?
Adaeze tried to unlock the phone, but it required a fingerprint.
She couldn’t open it.
For several minutes, she simply sat in the car staring at the screen.
She wanted to call Chinedu immediately.
But something stopped her.
What if there was an innocent explanation?
What if she confronted him and discovered that she had misunderstood everything?
Then another thought entered her mind.
Why would her husband need a secret phone if there was nothing to hide?
Adaeze placed the phone beside her and tried to calm herself.
She decided she would wait until Chinedu returned.
But before she could step out of the car, the phone vibrated again.
This time, it wasn’t a message.
It was a photograph.
The notification showed only a small preview.
Adaeze stared at it.
Her heart began pounding.
The photograph appeared to show Chinedu standing beside a woman.
She couldn’t see the woman’s face clearly.
But there was something else in the picture that made Adaeze’s blood run cold.
Behind them was a building she knew very well.
It was not a hotel.
It was not an office.
It was their family house.
Adaeze zoomed in on the notification preview.
Then the phone rang.
The caller’s name appeared on the screen:
“My Wife.”
Adaeze’s eyes widened.
She slowly raised the phone to her ear.
“Hello?”
There was silence on the other end.
Then a woman’s voice whispered:
“Who are you?”
Adaeze couldn’t speak.
And then the woman said something that made her drop the phone.
“Where is Chinedu?”
