First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has called on Nigerians to embrace charity and volunteerism, saying collective acts of kindness can help reduce poverty and create stronger communities.
The Remi Tinubu charity message was contained in her statement marking the 2026 International Day of Charity, observed globally on September 5.
Mrs Tinubu said the occasion was an opportunity for Nigerians to reflect on the importance of compassion, generosity and support for people facing difficult circumstances.

The First Lady said charity should go beyond giving money or material items, noting that helping others can also involve offering support, restoring hope and standing with people during challenging periods.
According to her, even small gestures of kindness can have a meaningful effect on the lives of those who receive them.
“Charity is more than giving; it is about extending a helping hand, restoring hope, and supporting those in need,” she said.
Mrs Tinubu added that individual contributions, regardless of their size, could make a difference when directed towards people who need assistance.
First Lady seeks support for vulnerable Nigerians
Mrs Tinubu particularly encouraged Nigerians to pay greater attention to vulnerable and less privileged members of society.
She said increased participation in charitable activities and voluntary service could complement efforts to tackle poverty while also strengthening relationships within communities.
The First Lady urged Nigerians to make volunteerism part of their contribution to society, stressing the value of collective action in supporting people who may otherwise be left behind.

In her message, Mrs Tinubu said Nigerians could help address social challenges by working together and supporting those in need.
“Through our collective action, we can help reduce poverty, strengthen our communities, and ensure that no one is left behind,” she said.
She also wished Nigerians and people around the world a happy International Day of Charity 2026.
