Deaconess Angel Oyakhilome, mother of Christ Embassy founder Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, has reportedly died at the age of 88.
Reports from Edo State said the respected matriarch passed away on Friday, September 25, 2026.
Deaconess Angel, popularly known as “Big Mummy,” was from Idunwele in Ewu, Esan Central Local Government Area of Edo State.
Community mourns ‘Big Mummy’
Esan News Magazine reported the death, describing Deaconess Angel as a respected mother whose influence extended beyond her immediate family.
The publication said her death had left the Oyakhilome family, the Ekagholo family, Ewu Kingdom and the wider Esan community in mourning.
According to the report, Deaconess Angel was remembered for her faith, family values, prayers and support for those around her.
The publication also described her as a woman who played an important role in raising children who went on to make an impact in different parts of the world.
It extended condolences to Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, the Oyakhilome family, the Ekagholo family and members of Christ Embassy worldwide.
Death yet to be officially confirmed
Despite the report, there was no immediate official confirmation from Christ Embassy at the time of publication.
A senior official of the church contacted by News Express on Saturday said he had also heard about the reported death.
However, he said he was not in a position to confirm the information.
“I have heard the news, too, but it is not for me to confirm her death,” the official said.
He added that he would contact the appropriate people and expected that an official statement would be released if the report was confirmed.
The development has therefore left the reported death of Pastor Chris Oyakhilome’s mother awaiting formal confirmation from the family or Christ Embassy.
