The Lagos State Government has introduced renewed Lagos schools safety measures as public primary and secondary schools prepare to reopen for the 2026/2027 academic session.
The state’s Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, urged school authorities, parents, teachers and students to take shared responsibility for maintaining secure and healthy learning environments.
According to the commissioner, school communities must quickly report security threats, damaged infrastructure, unsafe conditions and health concerns to the relevant authorities whenever they are identified.
The government also stressed the importance of keeping school facilities clean and suitable for learning. Schools are expected to maintain functional water supply, sanitation and hygiene facilities throughout the session.
As part of the Lagos schools safety guidelines, students have been encouraged to maintain good personal hygiene, wash their hands regularly, avoid littering and practise proper respiratory hygiene.
Learners were also advised against sharing personal items, while schools were encouraged to improve classroom ventilation and regularly clean surfaces that are frequently touched.
Alli-Balogun said teachers, administrators and other school workers should lead by example by maintaining strong standards of hygiene, cleanliness and safety.
He described the new academic session as an opportunity to promote not only academic performance but also discipline, character development, innovation and excellence among learners.
The commissioner further called on parents and other stakeholders to work closely with school authorities, noting that protecting the wellbeing of pupils, students and staff requires collective action.
Public primary and secondary schools in Lagos are scheduled to resume on Monday for the new academic session, while the state’s model colleges are expected to reopen on Sunday.
The government said continued cooperation among school communities would be essential to ensuring that Lagos schools safety remains a priority throughout the session.
