Former federal lawmaker, Ishaku Abbo, has formally resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with plans to unveil his new political platform later this week.

Abbo, who previously represented Adamawa North in the Senate, announced his departure on Monday, pointing to the escalating internal crisis within the party’s Adamawa State structure as the key reason behind his decision.

His exit comes just two days after supporters of Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, widely known as Binani, also withdrew from the party.

Earlier reports indicated growing divisions within the ADC in Adamawa, as a faction loyal to Binani declared a mass resignation following a stakeholders’ meeting held at the residence of Hon. Mijiyewa Umaru Kugama.

The group, which includes members from all three senatorial zones in the state, accused the party leadership of eroding internal democracy and violating established principles.

According to their communiqué, the leadership’s actions have weakened the rule of law within the party and rendered its structure in Adamawa ineffective and unacceptable. The controversy largely stems from dissatisfaction with the conduct of the party’s recent congresses, which the stakeholders described as deeply flawed.
