Air Chief Sunday Aneke oversees search, recovery and investigation efforts following the fatal aircraft crash in Igbokoda.

The Nigerian Air Force has stepped up its investigation into the fatal Igbokoda aircraft crash, with Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, visiting the accident site to oversee search and recovery operations.

Aneke led senior Air Force officials to Igbokoda, Ondo State, on Thursday, October 8, 2026, following the crash involving an NAF ATR 42 aircraft, identified as NAF 931.

During the visit, the Air Chief expressed condolences to the families of those who died. He also paid tribute to the victims for their service and sacrifice to the country.

NAF Chief Promises Thorough Igbokoda Crash Investigation

Aneke assured the families and the public that the Air Force would investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash professionally.

He said investigators would secure, document and preserve relevant evidence before examining it. He stressed that the investigation must follow established procedures.

The Air Chief also warned against speculation about the cause of the accident. According to him, investigators must assess all relevant evidence before reaching any conclusion.

He reaffirmed the Air Force’s commitment to transparency and accountability. He also assured affected families that the service would continue to support them.

Recovery Operations Continue at Crash Site

Air Vice Marshal EOE Ebiowe, who heads the Investigation and Recovery Team, said recovery efforts were progressing with support from aviation, security and emergency-response agencies.

He confirmed that authorities had secured the crash site. Teams were also documenting recovered items and preserving evidence for the investigation.

Ebiowe said investigators could not determine the cause of the crash until they completed their work.

Several agencies and organisations have supported the operation. They include the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police Force, National Emergency Management Agency, Ondo State Government, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and Amotekun Corps.

Local authorities, community leaders, volunteers and Hi-Tech Construction Company have also contributed to the ongoing efforts.

Air Force Thanks Tinubu, Supporting Agencies

Aneke thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his guidance during the difficult period.

He also acknowledged the support of government agencies, security personnel, emergency responders and residents of the host communities.

The Nigerian Air Force said its immediate priorities remain completing recovery operations, preserving evidence and conducting a comprehensive investigation into the fatal crash.

The service also pledged continued support for the families of those who lost their lives.
