Sola Ebiseni, former South-West Coordinator of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, has left the Labour Party and joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Ebiseni, who also serves as Secretary-General of Afenifere, announced his decision during a meeting with Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in Akure. He also declared support for President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.
Why Ebiseni Backed Tinubu
Ebiseni said his decision was influenced by his view that the presidency should remain in southern Nigeria for political stability.
He also argued that the Tinubu administration should have more time to implement and consolidate its existing policies.
The former Labour Party chieftain pointed to the removal of fuel subsidy as one of the major reforms that should not be reversed.
He argued that all major presidential candidates in the 2023 election had supported subsidy removal in one form or another.
Ebiseni also mentioned proposed state police and the expansion of Nigerian Army divisions as areas where he believes policy continuity is important.
Ebiseni Resigns as Afenifere Secretary-General
Reports also state that Ebiseni resigned as Secretary-General of Afenifere following his political move.
His decision marks a change from his role in Peter Obi’s 2023 campaign. Ebiseni served as the Labour Party campaign council’s South-West Coordinator during that election.
The Ebiseni Tinubu support was announced alongside his move into the APC campaign structure.
He and his supporters are expected to work with the APC as preparations for the 2027 elections continue.

Aiyedatiwa Welcomes Ebiseni
Governor Aiyedatiwa welcomed Ebiseni and his supporters into the APC fold.
The governor highlighted Ebiseni’s political experience across Ondo State. He also pointed to his previous roles as chairman of the old Ilaje-Ese-Ondo Local Government and as a commissioner.
Aiyedatiwa said Ebiseni’s leadership role in Afenifere and involvement in other socio-cultural organisations could contribute to the party’s campaign activities.
Ebiseni also cited the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as an issue of importance to communities in Ondo State. He said he wants the project’s implementation to properly cover the Ilaje coastal area.
The Ebiseni Tinubu support adds another political development to the growing activities around the 2027 presidential election.
