Members of the former The Osun Progressives (TOP), a political group previously loyal to former Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola, have officially returned to the All Progressives Congress ahead of the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
The group, now operating under the name Osun Progressives Ambassadors, also declared support for the APC governorship candidate, Munirudeen Oyebamiji.
In a statement released on Thursday by the group’s leader, Adeniran Ajala, the members admitted that their earlier political alignment with TOP was a mistake driven by misplaced expectations.
Ajala explained that the group initially joined TOP believing it would help strengthen the APC and address internal concerns within the party. However, they later realised the movement had allegedly become focused on personal interests rather than the collective progress of the state and the progressive political family.
According to him, the process of returning to the APC was made possible through the efforts of Femi Oyetola, son of the Minister for Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.
Ajala said the returning members are fully committed to working for the success of the APC in the forthcoming governorship election and future political contests in the state.
He also praised Femi Oyetola and his team for welcoming the group back into the party structure. Represented by his campaign Director-General, Kehinde Ayantunji, Oyetola reportedly described the governorship election as crucial to the APC’s future in Osun State.
Ayantunji further urged party members, especially youths across the state, to embrace the returning members at all levels of the party, stressing that they remain valuable partners in the development of Osun State.
