The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has unveiled its governorship and deputy governorship candidates for the 2027 elections in 28 states, unveiling a mix of former lawmakers, political heavyweights and other notable figures to fly the party’s flag.
Among the prominent names on the list are former Lagos State governorship candidate Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, former Kaduna State governorship candidate Isa Ashiru, former Attorney-General of the Federation Abubakar Malami and former Delta State governorship candidate Great Ogboru.
Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita is also the ADC’s candidate in Katsina State, while Senator Halliru Dauda Jika will contest the governorship election in Bauchi.
The party released the names in a statement signed by its spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, saying the candidates would offer voters what it described as a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
The ADC is among the opposition parties positioning themselves ahead of the next general elections, with the party presenting its candidates as part of its effort to provide an alternative political platform for Nigerians.
In Lagos, Rhodes-Vivour will contest alongside Gbadamosi Babatunde Olalere as his deputy, while Ashiru will seek the Kaduna governorship with Kantiok Irmiya Ishaku as his running mate.
Ogboru will contest the Delta governorship with Afiari Gloria, while Kaita’s running mate in Katsina is Aminu Yar’adua Ahmed.
In Kebbi State, former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami will contest the governorship election alongside Zagi Musa Mohammed.
Other notable names on the list include former House of Representatives members Herman Iorwase Hembe in Benue and Zakari Mohammed in Kwara. The party also picked retired Brigadier General John Sunday Sura as its governorship candidate in Plateau State.
The ADC said its candidates would carry the party’s message of credible leadership and provide voters with an alternative ahead of the 2027 elections.
The governorship elections are scheduled for February 6, 2027, while campaigns are expected to commence on September 9, 2026.
