During an interview with media personality Nedu Wazobia, legendary Nigerian singer 2Face Idibia claimed that men are not naturally built to be sexually committed to one woman. The statement quickly sparked outrage online, drawing widespread criticism from fans and the public.
The music icon took to his Instagram on Wednesday morning to publicly apologize for his remarks, acknowledging that his words were poorly chosen and deeply regrettable.
“I know I messed up with what I said. I really, really messed up the way I said it. I’m going to pay a heavy price for this, and I accept the consequences,” he said in a video posted on his page.
2Face explained that his intention was to be understood, not to offend, but admitted that he failed in his delivery. He extended a sincere apology to his wife, Natasha, and to everyone who felt let down by his comments.
“I own up to my mistake. One thing I know for sure is that I’m sorry—to my wife Natasha and to everyone I disappointed,” he said. “Being called a legend is an honor, but this comment of mine was far from legendary.”
The singer added that the volume of reactions he received made him realize the depth of love and respect people have for him, and that he regrets making a statement that threatened that trust.
“For me to now use stupid statements to cancel everything—that’s not who I am. I’m sorry,” he concluded.
While some fans have accepted his apology, others remain critical, arguing that his comments reflect deeper issues that go beyond poor phrasing.
