We’ll beat Nigeria again, Guinea Bissau boasts

After a surprise victory over the Super Eagles on Friday, Guinea Bissau are confident of another shocker in the second-leg encounter, which holds today.

The team from the tiny West African country surprised pundits with a gusty display in Abuja, leading to a 1-0 defeat of three times African champions, Super Eagles, right inside the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

Despite Nigeria’s efforts to even the scores, Guinea-Bissau held on for a famous victory, setting the stage for a highly anticipated second-leg clash today in Bissau. The match will air on StarTimes World Football channel at 5.00 p.m.

The Super Eagles arrived in Bissau, yesterday, full of anger, promising to put the Djurtus where they belong. But Guinea Bissau say Nigeria is in for another defeat.

Djurtus’ (Wild Dogs) Captain, Braima Nogueira Jorge, before his team left for home on Saturday said that Guinea Bissau had shown that football is not decided by a team’s pedigree.

“Nigeria is blessed with talented players, who are well known all over the world playing for top clubs.

“We scored a goal and defended well to frustrate Nigeria. It is a good win and we want to return home to complete the job,” Jorge said.

Reacting to Jorge’s boasts, Super Eagles’ Alex Iwobi said Nigeria will regain its position on top of Group A today.

“First and foremost, as players and staff, we know we’ve got to react to this result,” Iwobi said.

“All we can do is to improve, and to all the fans, all I can say is that they should stick by us and support us because we give 100 per cent, not just for ourselves, but also for our nation.

“Next time, we’re going to do our best and make the country proud. We know we are privileged to wear the shirt, there are a lot of people who want to be in this position.”

The Wild Dogs, who now top the Group A of the qualifying series, will host the Super Eagles in the reverse fixture at the Estadio 24 de Setembro, Bissau.
