Ugwuanyi dedicate Ekweremadu’s ordeal to God

by Salami Azeez

ENUGU— Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has requested prayers for Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who is currently being held in the United Kingdom on suspicions of organ harvesting and is dealing with other difficulties at home. Senator Ekweremadu is undergoing a difficult time. Sen. Ekweremadu’s struggles should be placed in God’s hands, Ugwuanyi urged the audience.

He spoke when the leaders and members of Oganiru Enugu, a support group for Senator Ike Ekweremadu, who represents Enugu West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, formally dismantled Ekweremadu’s political apparatus to start supporting Dr. Peter Mbah’s governorship campaign as instructed by their patron (Sen. Ekweremadu).

The governor urged group members and others to schedule Masses for the senator and his family each week as well as to start private prayers for Ekweremadu to overcome his obstacles.

He emphasized that when someone is absent for any reason, it is important to show them affection.

For “this too shall pass away,” he advised the group’s members to stay mentally strong.

The governor thanked Sen. Ekweremadu’s supporters, including the National President of Ndi Oganiru Enugu, Engr. Jude Asogwa, and other members of the Executive Council, for their loyalty. He also promised to keep them updated on the situation in London and assured them that “this too shall pass away.”

To ensure that no one’s rights are violated, Ugwuanyi declared that the group would become stronger in the future.

Thus, he expressed faith that “by God’s help, we will combine forces to ensure that all our candidates win in Enugu State.”

The National President of Ndi Oganiru Enugu, Engr. Asogwa stated that the purpose of the gathering was to reaffirm the understanding and commitment that Sen. Ekweremadu and Dr. Mbah had, as well as to carry out the instructions given by their patron (Ekweremadu), “that we should not only work for the election of Dr. Peter Mbah of the PDP, but also own the project and give it all that we have.”

At the ceremony, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for governor of Enugu State, also praised Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the state’s excellent leadership, stability, and security under his PDP-led administration.

According to Dr. Mbah, the seven and a half years of peace and security that Gov. Ugwuanyi has firmly established in Enugu State have resulted in significant infrastructure development.

The PDP candidate for governor said that it is a significant accomplishment that public and civil servants in Enugu State receive their pay when it is due, adding that the employees have also benefited from industrial harmony with the state’s current administration.

Dr. Mbah, who called Gov. Ugwuanyi “a greater leader,” emphasized that the governor has eagle eyes that allow him to discern and see more clearly than anyone else, saying: “You (Ugwuanyi) comprehend and know your constituency much better than anyone else.”

The PDP governorship candidate emphasized that Gov. Ugwuanyi is the PDP’s leader in Enugu State and the South East geopolitical zone and said the governor has demonstrated genuine leadership that has assured that “we are still and stay one political family.”

Dr. Mbah told Gov. Ugwuanyi that “we are here today because of your leadership qualities”, adding: “We are also here today to show that we still and will remain one political family and we have come together to put that seal and to say to you that we are under your leadership at all times as PDP members.

“Your Excellency, why today is very symbolic is that the people of Oganiru Enugu State have come to say that we are not outsiders; we are part and parcel of our great party, the PDP; we will not want to be treated as outsiders.”

Assuring that there will be no discrimination against the members of Oganiru Enugu, both during the electioneering and “when by the grace of God we take over the Lion Building,” the PDP guber candidate reminded the group of the task ahead in working together to ensure landslide victory for the PDP come February and March 2023.

Dr. Mbah, therefore, thanked the leadership of Ndi Oganiru Enugu for the bold step and demonstration of character, reiterating that “there will be no discrimination against you.”

The PDP guber candidate who expressed concern over the travail of Sen. Ekweremadu in London, said that the prayers and thoughts of members of the PDP family are with the Senator and his family, “and with faith, we pray that in no distant time, he is going to join us in the party.”

Restating Gov. Ugwuanyi’s leadership position in the state, Dr. Mbah further said: “Your Excellency, I am sure that this is an event for you. I am only here just to assure you that we have one big family under your leadership and what this symbolises is that we are all under your leadership and we are going to continue to be under your leadership because that marks the great success and peace we have recorded in Enugu as a PDP state.”
