The Tinubu health questions have sparked fresh political debate after former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s camp reacted to President Bola Tinubu referring to himself as “Governor” during an APC campaign council event in Abuja.
Tinubu made the remark on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, while speaking at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The President was acknowledging party leaders and members when he said the council’s director-general would help bring “Governor Bola Tinubu back for second time.”
The comment circulated widely on social media and attracted different reactions.
Atiku’s Aide Raises Tinubu Health Questions
Paul Ibe, media aide to Atiku Abubakar, reacted to the incident in a Facebook post on Thursday.
Ibe argued that the President’s choice of words should not be dismissed as an ordinary verbal slip. He said the incident raised questions about presidential health and transparency.
He also referred to previous reactions from Tinubu’s supporters when the President was addressed simply as “Bola.”
According to Ibe, the response to that incident contrasted with the President’s reported reference to himself as a governor, a position he left more than two decades ago.
Ibe maintained that Nigerians should be able to discuss questions about the President’s health and transparency openly.
Tinubu’s ‘Governor’ Remark Sparks Reactions
The remark came during the inauguration of the APC’s presidential campaign council, which is preparing for the 2027 general elections.
Tinubu previously served as governor of Lagos State from 1999 to 2007 before becoming President of Nigeria in 2023.
Reports of his latest remark generated debate online, with reactions ranging from criticism to those who viewed it as a verbal mistake.
