NYSC abduction suspects have been arrested after a joint operation involving the Department of State Services (DSS), the military and the police over the kidnapping of 20 corps members in Imo State.
The five suspects were arrested during intelligence-led operations in Rivers and Abia states between October 10 and 14, 2026, according to security sources.
The operations took place in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and Aba South Local Government Area of Abia State.
Three other suspects reportedly escaped during the raids with varying degrees of gunshot injuries.
NYSC Abduction Suspects Arrested in Joint Security Operation
The arrests followed a manhunt for the armed men who abducted 20 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on October 1, 2026.
Security agencies reportedly tracked the suspects to different locations as they worked to identify and apprehend those allegedly involved in the kidnapping.
The latest operation is expected to support ongoing efforts to dismantle the criminal network linked to the abduction.
However, the five arrested individuals remain suspects, and their alleged involvement will need to be established through the appropriate legal process.
How Gunmen Abducted 20 Corps Members
The 20 corps members were reportedly travelling along the Owerri–Onitsha Expressway on Nigeria’s 66th Independence Day when armed men abducted them.
They were on their way to their assigned orientation camps in Abia and Akwa Ibom states when the incident occurred.
The victims were later rescued on October 7 during a joint security operation at Amakohia Ubi village in Imo State.
Their rescue prompted continued efforts by security agencies to locate and arrest those allegedly responsible.
Security Sources React to the Arrests
A security source described the arrests as a major relief, saying security agencies had maintained an extensive manhunt for the suspected abductors.
The source expressed confidence that the suspects would face prosecution and that the affected corps members would receive justice.
The arrests mark another stage in the investigation into the kidnapping. Security agencies are expected to continue efforts to locate the three suspects who reportedly escaped during the operations.
Authorities have not provided further details about the identities of the arrested suspects in the report.
