Osun APC campaign committee dispute over Tinubu
The Osun APC has raised concerns over the notice given for the inauguration of Tinubu’s state campaign committee.

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has protested the short notice for the inauguration of the state presidential campaign committee for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

The Osun APC campaign dispute followed the party’s claim that it was not formally informed about the inauguration scheduled for Thursday. The committee is to be coordinated by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Osun APC Chairman Tajudeen Lawal said the party learnt about the event through a list of committee members shared on social media by Adeleke’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, on Wednesday afternoon.

Lawal stressed that the APC supports Tinubu’s re-election but argued that an important political exercise of this nature requires proper planning and consultation with party leaders.

He said the campaign was a collective responsibility that should receive the appropriate official attention.

Osun APC Complains About Short Notice

Lawal described the less-than-12-hour notice as inadequate, arguing that it prevented several party leaders, members and supporters from making arrangements to attend.

He also questioned the decision to announce the committee members less than 24 hours before the inauguration without first consulting the state party leadership.

According to him, the party could not rely solely on a social media announcement for an event of such political importance.

The APC chairman said the process had caused concern among party stakeholders who expected proper communication before the inauguration.

He added that the arrangement risked creating unnecessary tension between the Osun APC and the campaign coordinator appointed for the state.

APC Questions Motive Behind Committee Arrangement

The Osun APC campaign disagreement deepened as Lawal questioned why the committee membership was announced without prior engagement with the party’s state leadership.

He alleged that the arrangement could be an attempt to create friction between the APC in Osun and Adeleke, who was appointed to coordinate Tinubu’s re-election campaign in the state.

Lawal, however, did not say the party opposed the President’s re-election effort. Instead, he maintained that the process should be handled in a way that encourages cooperation among those involved.

He said the party considered Tinubu’s re-election an important collective project and would not treat it casually.

Osun APC Reaffirms Support for Tinubu

Despite its objections, the state APC leadership reaffirmed its commitment to Tinubu’s re-election in 2027.

Lawal said the party was willing to work with other political stakeholders to support the President’s campaign, provided the process followed proper procedures.

He also acknowledged that Adeleke’s appointment as state coordinator could strengthen Tinubu’s chances through cooperation among the political parties involved.

The chairman maintained that the APC’s concern was not about the appointment itself but the way the committee was constituted and announced.

The disagreement comes as political parties and their stakeholders begin preparations for the 2027 presidential election.
