Police in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have arrested a man accused of using a fake presidential number plate on a Lexus LX570 SUV in Abuja.
The fake Presidency number plate was discovered when police officers intercepted the vehicle in Maitama District at about 8pm on October 20, 2026, according to the FCT Police Command.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, said the occupant was taken into custody for investigation and possible prosecution.
Preliminary findings reportedly showed that the concealed number plate carried the inscription “PRESIDENCY” and registration number 10B218 FG.
Police Uncover Alleged Forged Documents
Adeh said the suspect claimed to be the legitimate holder of the number plate. However, further investigations allegedly revealed that the registration documents were forged.
Police also accused the suspect of impersonating a permanent secretary attached to the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The command said investigations were ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court when they were concluded.
The allegations have not been determined by a court.
