Ronaldo ban after Cristiano Ronaldo leaves Portugal’s national team camp in Denmark
Cristiano Ronaldo receives a 30-day suspension and €255 fine from Portugal’s football federation.

Cristiano Ronaldo has received a 30-day suspension and a €255 fine from the Portuguese Football Federation after leaving the national team’s camp in Denmark without permission.

The Ronaldo ban follows a disciplinary investigation into his departure from the squad on September 30, 2026. The federation found him guilty of intentionally committing a disciplinary offence under its regulations.

The decision came after a reported disagreement between Ronaldo and Portugal head coach Jorge Jesus over the forward’s role in the team.

Why Portugal Punished Cristiano Ronaldo

Ronaldo left Portugal’s training camp in Copenhagen ahead of the team’s Nations League fixture against Denmark.

The incident followed Portugal’s 2-1 victory over Norway on September 27, when Ronaldo remained an unused substitute. He later accused Jesus of breaking promises about his playing time.

The coach denied making such an agreement but did not rule out Ronaldo’s return to the national team.

The Portuguese Football Federation subsequently opened disciplinary proceedings. Its disciplinary council upheld the charge and imposed a 30-day suspension alongside the €255 fine.

Ronaldo Apologises After Leaving Portugal Camp

Following the incident, Ronaldo apologised for leaving his teammates and failing to acknowledge supporters after the match against Norway.

He also indicated that he would accept the punishment imposed by the federation.

His admission and previous disciplinary record were among the mitigating factors considered during the proceedings, according to reports on the ruling.

The Ronaldo ban is therefore the outcome of the federation’s disciplinary process rather than a new injury or a football-related suspension.

Will Ronaldo Miss Portugal’s November Matches?

Despite the 30-day punishment, Ronaldo is expected to be available for Portugal’s November international fixtures.

Reports say the suspension was backdated to the period immediately after he left the camp on September 30. He had already served part of the sanction under a provisional suspension.

Portugal are scheduled to face Denmark on November 14 and Wales on November 17. Ronaldo’s availability means head coach Jorge Jesus could select the captain again, although his participation will depend on the final squad selection.

The Ronaldo ban has drawn attention because of the dispute involving one of Portugal’s most prominent players. However, the backdated punishment means it is not expected to rule him out of the upcoming November fixtures.
