Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, Emir of Kano urges his subjects and other Nigerians to get vaccinated.
The monarch noted that the harmattan season would increase the prevalence of influenza and catarrh, which will spread the COVID-19 virus more speedily.
Ado Bayero while addtessing journalists in his palace advised that even after being vaccinated, people should continue observing prevention measures such as wearing a face mask, washing hands frequently, ensuring social distance and avoiding large gatherings.
“The harmattan season is fast approaching. During this time, there is increased prevalence of influenza and catarrh. I encourage all the people of Kano State to get vaccinated as soon as possible in order to avoid further complications by the contraction of the COVID-19 virus.
“COVID-19 is real and many of our people have died of it. That is why we must do all we can to prevent its further spread. For the avoidance of doubt, I have been fully vaccinated and here is my vaccination card,” the monarch said, showing his vaccination card to reporters.
The emir also appealed to families to ensure that pregnant women register for ante-natal care in the nearest facility and receive iron folic and acid supplements; to continue going there and give birth there.
He also asked them to ensure that the birth of children are registered and to ensure that children are put on breast milk immediately after birth and in the first six months of a child’s life.
On children’s education, the emir urged parents and caregivers to ensure their children enroll early in school and continue to attend school until they complete at least basic education at the age of 16 years.
The emir also appreciated the efforts of government in bringing cholera outbreak in Kano State under control.
