Police announce heavy-duty vehicle restrictions and alternative routes ahead of Tinubu’s Kaduna visit.

The Kaduna vehicle restriction announced by the police will prevent trailers, tankers, lorries and other heavy-duty vehicles from entering or moving across Kaduna metropolis during President Bola Tinubu’s visit.

The Kaduna State Police Command said the restriction would run from midnight on Friday, October 23, until 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2026.

Commissioner of Police Muhammad Rabiu announced the measure during a security briefing. He said the restriction followed consultations between the security committee and transport unions to reduce congestion and ensure smooth movement during the presidential visit.

Rabiu clarified that the directive applies only to heavy-duty vehicles. Other commuters can continue to move around the metropolis.

Kaduna Vehicle Restriction Targets Heavy-Duty Vehicles

The police commissioner said the measure would help ease traffic and allow the presidential convoy to move freely.

Trailers, tankers, lorries, articulated vehicles and other heavy-duty vehicles will be affected during the restriction period.

Rabiu also confirmed that the police and other security agencies had activated security arrangements ahead of the presidential visit.

The deployment involves the military, Department of State Services (DSS), tactical police teams, explosive ordnance disposal personnel, traffic management units and crowd-control teams.

Officers will cover the campaign venue and other strategic locations to protect Tinubu, visiting dignitaries, campaign participants and residents.

Police Announce Alternative Routes for Heavy Vehicles

The command has also issued alternative routes for heavy-duty vehicles travelling between Kaduna, Zaria and Abuja.

Vehicles travelling from Zaria towards Kaduna should divert through the Maraban Jos–Saminaka route towards Gadan Gayan. They should then use the Kujama Road link to Mararaba Rido and the Eastern Bypass before reconnecting with the Abuja–Kaduna Highway through Kakau Bridge.

Heavy-duty vehicles travelling from Abuja towards Kaduna and Zaria should use the Eastern Bypass from Kakau Bridge. They should proceed through Mararaba Rido and Gadan Gayan before connecting to the Maraban Jos route towards Zaria.

The police urged affected drivers to follow the designated routes throughout the restriction period.

Police Warn Against Violence During Tinubu’s Visit

Rabiu advised people without legitimate business at the campaign venue to stay away from the site, nearby areas and designated security zones.

He said the measure would improve crowd management, reduce congestion and support the safe movement of the presidential convoy.

The commissioner also urged political party leaders, supporters and residents to maintain peace before, during and after the event.

He warned that the command would not tolerate political thuggery, violence, intimidation, incitement or the possession and display of dangerous weapons.

Rabiu further warned against the destruction of campaign posters, particularly those bearing Tinubu’s image. He said anyone caught destroying such posters would face the law.

Police Urge Residents to Report Suspicious Activities

The commissioner called on residents to provide credible information about suspicious activities, planned violence and individuals carrying weapons.

He described security as a collective responsibility and encouraged the public to cooperate with the relevant authorities.

Rabiu also cautioned social media users and bloggers against publishing content intended to abuse or harm others. He warned that offenders could face legal consequences under applicable cybercrime laws.

He appealed to journalists, political supporters and members of the public to work with security agencies to ensure a peaceful presidential visit.

The command said its security arrangements would remain in place before, during and after the campaign activities.
