Fidelia Ezinwanne Chigbogu, the elder sister of late Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, has died suddenly at the age of 61 while preparing to attend church in Lagos.

Mrs Chigbogu reportedly slumped on Sunday morning after completing her bath and getting ready for church. Her husband, Chudi Chidinma Chigbogu, said she showed no signs of illness before the incident.

The bereaved husband described her death as a devastating shock, saying he struggled to believe she was gone.

Husband Recounts Her Final Moments

According to Chudi, his wife woke up that Sunday without complaints of a headache, fever or any other apparent health problem.

She planned to attend church, where she regularly performed important duties. She had also intended to give a testimony during the service.

Chudi said he went outside to wash his car because of the dust. Around 8 a.m., he became concerned that his wife had not come downstairs as usual.

He asked their son to check on her. The boy reportedly found her unresponsive and raised the alarm.

Chudi rushed upstairs and found his wife lying on the bed. He called her repeatedly but received no response.

He then alerted neighbours, who helped him take her to several hospitals in search of medical assistance.

Family Rushed Her to Hospitals

Chudi said he took his wife to six hospitals, but medical personnel told him she had already died before reaching their facilities.

He recalled that the family eventually arrived at the Navy Hospital, where staff reportedly declined to admit her.

The husband said the family continued praying at home for several hours before deciding to arrange an ambulance to transport her body to their village.

He also recounted an experience in which someone told him she had seen his wife in a vision and believed she had gone to heaven. He said this helped him accept the loss.

The family eventually transported her body from Lagos to their hometown in Anambra State.

The cause of her sudden death was not disclosed in the account.

Husband Remembers Her as a Peacemaker

Chudi described his late wife as a natural leader who worked to resolve family disputes and support people in need.

He said she founded a women’s group, played an active role in church activities and was widely known for her charitable work.

Before her death, she had also been working on establishing an orphanage.

Her husband pledged to continue the project in her memory, saying he would not abandon the vision she had worked hard to pursue.

Details of the Ubah Family

Chudi said his late wife came from a family of seven children, comprising three sons and four daughters. She was the second daughter and served as one of the trustees of the Ubah family.

Her death adds to the family’s bereavement following the death of her younger brother, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, who represented Anambra South in the Senate.

Family members and loved ones will remember Fidelia for her commitment to the church, charitable activities and efforts to maintain peace within her family.
