by Salami Azeez

Rights group, Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network (CRRAN), has written to the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission, ICPC over a certificate forgery case against the current President of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Mr Chris Isiguzo.

In a letter dated, 6th April 2021 and addressed to the Chairman of the anti corruption body, the President of CRRAN, Mr Olu Omotayo, said that the ICPC had failed to release the outcome of a complaint made to it on the certificate issue.

According to Omotayo, “The Civil Rights Realisation and Advancement Network (CRRAN), writes to you in respect of the above mentioned matter and seek an urgent action in respect thereof.

“Mr. Petrus Obi, the National Vice President, Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), South East, had vide a petition dated 29th March 2021, complained to this organization in respect of the above-mentioned matter and sought our intervention.

“Mr. Obi stated that a petition dated 21/10/2019, and signed by Chibota Edozie, was made to the Commission over issues bordering on certificate forgery concerning Mr. Chris Isiguzo, the current NUJ President.

“Mr. Obi further stated its’ office is worried that after over a year nothing has been heard of the investigation and this has been the cause of the current crisis threatening the Union.

CRRAN said that the ICPC as a foremost government agency charged with the responsibility of investigating cases of corruption and other related matters should live up to its’ responsibility of discharging its’ duties without fear or favour, irrespective of whose ox is gored.

The group also demanded that the commission makes known to the petitioners the outcome of investigations in respect of their complaints and further take appropriate actions in respect of the matter as expected of the commission pursuant to the powers conferred on it by the law.
