Former Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose has predicted that President Bola Tinubu would defeat Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, even if the two opposition figures decide to work together.
Fayose made the statement during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the emerging political contest ahead of the 2027 election.
The former governor argued that an alliance between Atiku and Obi would not be enough to stop Tinubu, while a decision by both politicians to contest separately could further divide the opposition vote.
According to Fayose, the South-West would play a major role in the election, with the former governor projecting a substantial vote margin for Tinubu in the region.
The Fayose Tinubu 2027 prediction also included a claim that Tinubu could secure more than 12 million votes nationwide. Fayose questioned the level of political structure Atiku and Obi could build in South-West states such as Ekiti, Osun and Ondo.
“It’s a three-way horse, maybe I am not putting it right. Atiku is there, and Obi is there. Even if they come together, this man (Tinubu) will still defeat them,” Fayose said.
He further described the South-West as an important factor in his calculation, claiming the region could produce a five-to-six-million-vote advantage for Tinubu.
Fayose also said Tinubu represented what he described as the shortest route for political power to eventually return to the North, arguing that an eight-year presidency by another candidate could delay that transition.
The Fayose Tinubu 2027 prediction comes as political parties and opposition figures continue to position themselves ahead of the presidential contest, with discussions around alliances and possible joint candidacies remaining a major part of the political conversation.
Fayose, who was recently appointed chairman of the Rural Electrification Agency board by Tinubu, also pointed to the administration’s economic policies and road projects as factors behind his assessment of the President’s electoral prospects.
His comments represent his own political assessment of the 2027 race and are not an established prediction of the election outcome.
