In a recent interview with Kiss FM in London, 33-year-old British-Nigerian actor Damson Idris shared that his greatest motivation in life and career is making his mother proud.
“I’m a mummy’s boy. Big time. I’m not ashamed to admit it anymore,” Idris said candidly. “It used to be kind of like – ‘ah, he’s a mummy’s boy.’ But now, I’m actually proud of it. That woman is the reason why I exist. She is my biggest fan, and I’m her biggest fan.”
The Snowfall star reflected on how his relationship with his mother mirrors that of a character he recently portrayed, Joshua. “He just wants to make his mother proud and be the best — to win a championship. And hopefully I can win a championship in whatever way I can, too,” Idris added.
Idris emphasized that he no longer sees vulnerability or family loyalty as something to hide. “She’s the one I want to make proud,” he reiterated, underscoring her enduring influence on his life.
Born in London to Nigerian parents, Damson Idris rose to international fame with his breakout role as Franklin Saint in FX’s crime drama series Snowfall, created by the late John Singleton. Despite humble beginnings, Idris honed his acting skills at the Identity School of Acting in London — the same training ground as fellow British-Nigerian talents like John Boyega and Letitia Wright.
His performance in Snowfall has earned him widespread critical acclaim and multiple award nominations, firmly establishing him as one of the most compelling new faces in Hollywood.
Beyond his rising stardom, Idris remains grounded by his heritage and the unwavering support of his mother. For him, success isn’t just about fame — it’s about honoring the woman who raised him.
