Popular Nollywood filmmaker and actor, Kunle Afolayan, has raised concerns over the rising cost of diesel, revealing that he spends approximately N11 million every month to keep his business running.
Afolayan made the revelation in a video currently circulating on social media, where he spoke about the financial strain caused by the increase in fuel prices on operations at his creative hub, KAP Film Village.
According to the filmmaker, maintaining power supply at the facility has become increasingly difficult, even though the centre already operates a solar energy system. He explained that diesel is still heavily relied upon to supplement the power supply.
He also disclosed that diesel purchases are sometimes made on credit due to the high cost, adding that payments can take up to two months to settle once the business generates some income.
The filmmaker appealed for financial assistance to help expand the facility’s solar energy capacity, noting that such support would significantly reduce the heavy dependence on diesel.
Afolayan expressed frustration over the recent surge in diesel prices, which he said rose from around N995 or N1,000 per litre to about N1,500 per litre. According to him, the current price has made it extremely difficult for him to sustain operations.
He added that the steep increase in diesel costs left him shocked and worried about the long-term sustainability of running the film village.
