The APC campaign council raises allegations over reports ahead of its Kaduna rally.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council has accused former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) of allegedly spreading misinformation to undermine the party’s presidential campaign flag-off in Kaduna.

In a press statement dated Saturday, October 24, 2026, the council’s spokesperson, Dele Alake, alleged that opposition figures planned to circulate fabricated reports, manipulated videos and counterfeit documents to discredit President Bola Tinubu, Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani and other APC leaders.

The allegations came as the ruling party prepared to hold its presidential campaign rally in Kaduna.

APC Alleges Coordinated Fake News Campaign

Alake claimed that the alleged misinformation campaign involved artificial intelligence, deepfake videos and manipulated documents intended to influence public opinion and generate negative publicity for the APC.

He cited a photograph of a security vehicle stationed near an APC campaign billboard in Kaduna as one example. According to him, opposition figures misrepresented the vehicle’s presence as evidence that security personnel had been deployed to protect the party’s billboards.

Alake also alleged that Atiku shared a report about the incident on his official social media accounts after it appeared in a national newspaper.

However, the statement did not provide independent evidence establishing that Atiku or the ADC coordinated the alleged operation.

APC Challenges N2.3 Trillion Kaduna Rally Claim

The campaign council also disputed an online letter purportedly written by Governor Uba Sani to Senator Abdulaziz Yari, the Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council.

According to Alake, the document allegedly claimed that the Kaduna State Government had released ₦2.3 trillion to host the rally.

He dismissed the figure as implausible and argued that it exceeded the state’s combined budgets for 2024, 2025 and 2026.

The statement listed Kaduna State’s budgets for the three years as follows:

  • 2024: ₦458.271 billion
  • 2025: ₦790.439 billion
  • 2026: ₦985.9 billion

Alake said the combined total remained below ₦2.3 trillion. He used the figures to challenge the authenticity of the circulating document.

The council, however, did not include a forensic assessment or other independent verification of the purported letter in its statement.

Council Warns of Manipulated Rally Videos

Alake further alleged that individuals linked to the opposition planned to circulate old footage, doctored recordings and deepfake videos during the rally.

He claimed the material would be presented in ways that could falsely suggest public opposition to the APC campaign.

The council urged Nigerians to scrutinise online reports and verify videos and documents before sharing them.

APC, ADC Yet to Present Responses in Statement

The statement accused Atiku and the ADC of attempting to damage the ruling party’s public image ahead of the 2027 general elections. It also criticised the opposition’s political strategy.

These accusations represent the APC campaign council’s position. The statement did not include a response from Atiku Abubakar or the ADC to the allegations.

Independent verification of the disputed photograph, purported letter and claims of a coordinated misinformation campaign would be necessary to establish their authenticity and determine whether any organised effort took place.
