Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has received a boost to his 2027 re-election bid after Plateau indigenes living in Kaduna State declared support for his second-term ambition.
The community made the pledge during an appreciation visit by Mutfwang, his deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, and other government officials. The visit coincided with activities surrounding the flag-off of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in Kaduna.
Mutfwang Re-election Bid Gets Community Backing
Addressing the gathering, Mutfwang thanked Plateau indigenes for supporting his successful 2023 governorship campaign. He particularly acknowledged those who travelled from Kaduna to Plateau to vote for him.
The governor said he would not take their sacrifices and confidence for granted. He also promised to sustain his administration’s development agenda, strengthen public institutions and improve residents’ quality of life.
Mutfwang urged the community to remain united and contribute to Plateau State’s progress. He also called on members to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027.
According to the governor, cooperation between the state and federal governments could help accelerate development.
Governor Highlights Projects Across Plateau
Mutfwang outlined several projects and policy initiatives his administration has pursued across the state.
On infrastructure, he said road construction and rehabilitation were ongoing in Plateau’s 17 local government areas. He added that the government had completed and commissioned some projects.
In education, the governor cited a 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees at Plateau State University, expanded scholarship opportunities and efforts to secure accreditation for programmes in tertiary institutions.
He also pointed to investments in school facilities and learning materials aimed at improving education.
On healthcare, Mutfwang said his administration had improved medical infrastructure, acquired modern diagnostic equipment, expanded laboratory capacity and revitalised primary healthcare facilities.
The governor also listed intelligence gathering, security operations and community-based initiatives among measures his administration was using to tackle insecurity.
He further highlighted the Tin City Metro bus service and other transport initiatives designed to ease movement and reduce travel costs.
Mutfwang Praises Tinubu Over Road Projects
The governor commended Tinubu for approving major road projects affecting Plateau State.
These include the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Maiduguri corridor and the Mararaban Jama’a–Mangu–Kanke–Langtang–Shendam–Ibi road.
Mutfwang described the projects as important investments that could improve commerce and connect communities to economic opportunities.
He also referenced Plateau’s political influence, including the emergence of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as APC national chairman and the state’s historical contribution to party leadership through the late Chief Solomon Lar.
Community Leaders Pledge Continued Support
Deputy Governor Ngo Josephine Piyo, Secretary to the State Government Samuel Nanchant Jatau and campaign council Director-General Joseph Ari praised the community for maintaining strong ties with Plateau.
They urged members to continue supporting the administration.
Community chairman John Nanpe thanked the governor for the visit and pledged continued solidarity with his government and re-election ambition.
A community patron, Peter Dasat, also praised the administration’s development efforts and expressed confidence in its prospects in the 2027 election.
