A 36-year-old woman, Anulika Onyeanusia, arrested by the Anambra State Police Command over alleged child sexual abuse in Onitsha, reportedly told investigators that she earned as much as $300 from uploading abusive videos involving her eight-year-old daughter to an online platform.
The suspect’s arrest followed the circulation of a disturbing video online, which prompted police operatives to launch an investigation using information gathered from open sources.
According to the police, Onyeanusia admitted during questioning that the highest amount she had received from uploading such material was $300. She reportedly identified the child featured in the video as her second daughter.
Preliminary investigations also allegedly indicated that her first daughter may have been subjected to similar abuse, with the content reportedly uploaded online.
During interrogation, the suspect allegedly attributed her actions to the devil and pleaded for forgiveness. She also reportedly told investigators that her husband was unaware of the alleged abuse involving their two daughters.
Police Rescue Four Children
The police operation, conducted on Thursday evening, led to the rescue of four children aged two, three, six and nine years, according to the command.
Sex toys and other items believed to be relevant to the investigation were also recovered from the suspect.
The arrest came after a video allegedly showing the abuse of the eight-year-old girl spread online. The footage reportedly prompted concerns over the child’s safety and led authorities to trace the woman.
The Anambra State Police Command said its investigation was ongoing to establish the full circumstances of the alleged offences and determine whether other individuals were involved.
Husband Questioned Over Alleged Abuse
The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the arrest and said the suspect remained in police custody while investigators examined the case.
Ikenga added that the suspect’s husband was also being questioned to determine whether he had any connection to the alleged offences.
The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Nnanna Oji, described the alleged abuse as unacceptable, particularly because it involved children who were unable to protect themselves.
The police commissioner directed a thorough investigation and ordered that the rescued children receive appropriate care and protection.
According to the command, arrangements would be made to work with child-protection agencies and other relevant organisations to provide the children with counselling and additional support.
The police also assured the public that the identities and privacy of the children would be protected throughout the investigation.
The command commended local vigilantes, bloggers and residents whose information reportedly helped authorities trace the suspect and rescue the children.
