2027 Election: SDP’s Adebayo Rejects Return of Former Public Office Holders

Social Democratic Party (SDP) presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo has declared that former public office holders should not seek to govern Nigeria again, arguing that their past performances have damaged public confidence in the country’s leadership.

Adebayo made his position known in a statement released by his Presidential Campaign Communications Directorate. He said his ambition was to serve Nigerians through accountability and effective governance rather than pursue power for its own sake.

According to the SDP candidate, politicians who have previously occupied public offices have had opportunities to address Nigeria’s problems but failed to deliver the desired results. He argued that their records had weakened the trust between citizens and government.

Adebayo criticised prominent opposition figures, including Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, accusing them of representing a continuation of old political practices linked to their previous roles in government.

He also described President Bola Tinubu’s administration as a major failure and alleged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) might attempt to manipulate the 2027 election. He therefore urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and take steps to protect their votes.

The SDP candidate maintained that his lack of experience in public office gives him a different advantage over his opponents. He pointed to his background as an international lawyer and entrepreneur, saying he had built businesses, created jobs and handled complex challenges without depending on public funds.

Adebayo said Nigeria needed fresh leadership focused on solving problems, improving infrastructure, reducing insecurity and creating economic opportunities for citizens.

He further argued that the country could not resolve its challenges by repeatedly returning to politicians who had already been given the opportunity to lead.

The SDP presidential candidate said his campaign would promote competence, integrity and people-centred governance. He called on Nigerians to reject recycled leadership and support a new direction based on character, accountability and service.

For Adebayo, the 2027 election represents an opportunity for Nigerians to break away from familiar political patterns and choose leaders committed to rebuilding the country.
