Abba Atiku backs Tinubu’s 2027 campaign
Abba Atiku Abubakar has pledged 10 buses for Tinubu’s re-election mobilisation.

Abba Atiku Abubakar, son of former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, has renewed his support for President Bola Tinubu’s second-term ambition ahead of the 2027 general election.

Abba announced a pledge of 10 buses to support mobilisation for Tinubu’s re-election campaign during a visit to the All Progressives Congress (APC) national secretariat in Abuja.

The development places him on a different political path from his father, who is seeking the presidency under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to reports, Abba was received by the APC Deputy National Chairman (North), Bukar Dalori. The party’s Senior Special Assistant on Youth Mobilisation, Yusi Buba, said the buses would support activities aimed at mobilising backing for Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 election.

Abba’s latest move follows his decision to join the APC in January 2026. He has also established the Haske Bola Tinubu Organisation, a political support platform intended to coordinate mobilisation for the President’s re-election.

At a press conference in Abuja, Abba said the organisation would begin its activities in the Federal Capital Territory before expanding across the country. He also outlined plans for a two-million-man mobilisation march covering Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

Abba Atiku explains support for Tinubu

Abba has described his political alignment as a personal decision. He has also expressed support for the Tinubu administration and its policies, including initiatives in education, infrastructure and government revenue.

His position has attracted attention because of his father’s role in the opposition and his own political ambition to support the incumbent president.

In an opinion article, Edo State Commissioner for Information Kassim Afegbua interpreted Abba’s decision as a strong rejection of his father’s political ambition. Afegbua argued that the younger Abubakar’s choice should prompt Nigerians to examine Atiku’s presidential bid.

However, Abba’s decision to support Tinubu does not, by itself, establish that he has disowned his father. It reflects a political disagreement and a choice to support a different candidate.

Afegbua also argued that Tinubu should receive another term to continue his reform agenda. He cited the removal of petrol subsidy and other economic measures as reasons for supporting continuity.

The commissioner, who is also a member of the 2027 Presidential Campaign Committee, urged Nigerians to consider the arguments surrounding the coming election.

With political parties and support groups preparing for the 2027 contest, Abba’s public endorsement adds another dimension to the political contrast between the two members of the Abubakar family.
