Speaking in a recent interview with SB Live, Nigerian Afrobeats star Zinoleesky opened up about the challenges he faced while chasing a music career, including going against his parents’ wishes and running away from home.
According to Zinoleesky, Nigerian parents often discourage their children from pursuing careers in the entertainment industry, preferring more traditional paths like professional courses or skilled trades.
“Nigerian parents are always in denial whenever you want to do stuff like music. They want you to do a professional course or learn a trade. So, you just have to find a way,” he said. “Me, I did some crazy stuff. I ran away from home to do music.”
The ‘Kilofeshe’ hitmaker also revealed that his journey into the music world began with rap before he transitioned into singing — a switch that played a key role in shaping his signature sound.
Zinoleesky rose to fame in 2017 after his freestyle videos went viral online, marking the beginning of his rise as one of Nigeria’s most promising music talents.
He credited his bold decisions, including absconding from home at a young age, as pivotal moments in his pursuit of success.
