Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has taken a swipe at former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, amid ongoing corruption allegations linked to her tenure in office.
In a post shared on her Instagram story, Jegede did not hold back as she reacted to the controversy, describing the former minister in harsh terms while criticizing what she portrayed as a pattern of abuse of public office by Nigeria’s elite. She remarked that the situation reflects how those in power often convert public resources into personal wealth, adding that such behavior appears to follow a familiar trend.
Alison-Madueke, who held office from 2010 to 2015, has long been at the center of multiple corruption allegations. These include claims of misappropriating billions of dollars from oil revenues, laundering funds through foreign financial systems, and awarding contracts for personal benefit. Authorities have also linked her to the acquisition of high-value properties and assets overseas through suspected illicit funds.
Over the years, she has been investigated by Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission alongside international bodies, with cases spanning Nigeria, the United States, and the United Kingdom. In 2023, authorities in the UK filed fresh bribery charges against her, adding to the list of legal challenges she faces.
