Two die, eight injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway crash

Two people were reported dead while eight others were injured on Tuesday in a lone accident involving a Toyota Hiace with number plate GAS 937 XA around Christopher University along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun State Command, Florence Okpe, in a statement made available to journalists, attributed the lone crash to wrongful overtaking and excessive speed.

The statement read, “FRSC operatives attached to the Mowe Unit Command in conjunction with TRACE carried out a rescue operation on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway around Christopher University.

“The crash occurred around 11.30am of Tuesday involving a vehicle with number plate GAS 937 XA, a Toyota Hiace. A total of 10 persons were involved which comprised seven male adults and three female adults.

“Eight persons including six male adults and two female adults were injured, while two persons, one male adult and one female adult, were recorded dead from the crash.

“The incident was a lone crash and the suspected cause of the fatal crash was wrongful overtaking on the part of the Toyota driver who rammed into a station vehicle, coupled with excessive speed.”

The Ogun State Sector Commander of FRSC, Anthony Uga, has however cautioned motorists on excessive speed and wrongful overtaking.
