“Tougher Immigration Policies Spark Concerns Among African Migrants

"US Effort to Deport Over 1.4 Million Faces Backlash, Particularly Impacting Nigerian Immigrants"

by Folawi Titilayo

“The White House recently declared that ‘America is respected again,’ emphasizing that its immigration policies are centered on securing national borders.

This development has raised concerns, especially among African migrants, with Nigerians being notably affected by these changes. A document from the US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), shared with the media, reveals that this move is part of a broader effort to remove over 1.4 million non-citizens who are facing final deportation orders.

President Donald Trump has long advocated for a tougher immigration policy, which includes ramping up deportations. In a statement last week, he reiterated the administration’s stance on deporting ‘criminal aliens’ and reinforced his overall immigration strategy, which also involves deploying military forces along the southern border with Mexico.

While these individuals are not currently in detention, they have exhausted all legal options to stay in the US. ICE’s primary responsibility is to enforce immigration laws and ensure the removal of individuals who are unlawfully present in the country.”
