Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), located in Awka, Anambra State, has expelled a student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, for physically assaulting a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Okoye, from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.
The university announced that the decision was based on the recommendation of the Student Disciplinary Committee, which concluded that the student’s actions were a serious breach of the institution’s disciplinary regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR).
A letter titled “EXPULSION FROM NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY” stated, “The Acting Vice-Chancellor, on behalf of the University Senate, has approved the Committee’s recommendation for your expulsion. You are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.”
The letter further explained: “The Ag. Vice-Chancellor received the report from the Student Disciplinary Committee regarding the assault on a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies, which was deemed gross misconduct and a violation of the Students Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR).”
The expulsion is effective immediately. The student is instructed to vacate the university premises and return any university property in her possession.
The expulsion was formalized in a letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by Acting Registrar, Victor I. Modebelu.
