The Ekiti State Police Command has confirmed that African Action Congress (AAC) presidential aspirant, Omoyele Sowore, has been discharged from hospital following an altercation at a restaurant in Ado-Ekiti.
However, the police accused the activist of repeatedly declining to provide a formal statement to assist investigators examining the incident.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Abutu Sunday, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, October 30, 2026.
According to the police, Sowore and other individuals affected by the incident received medical attention at the Police Cottage Hospital in Ado-Ekiti before their discharge.
The statement said Sowore left the hospital at approximately 4:30 p.m. and returned to Ikogosi Warm Springs Resort, where he had initially lodged.
The police added that attempts to obtain his personal account of the incident had been unsuccessful.
According to the Command, Sowore declined several requests to make a statement that could assist the ongoing investigation.
Police Investigate Sowore’s Restaurant Altercation
The incident reportedly occurred on Friday at a restaurant around the Dalimore area of Ado-Ekiti.
Sowore was allegedly involved in a confrontation with some individuals whose identities had not been established at the time of the report.
The police also claimed that the AAC presidential aspirant did not formally inform the Command about his arrival in Ekiti State or disclose his movements within the state.
The Command said prior notification would have helped security operatives make adequate arrangements during his visit.
However, the police have not disclosed the identities of the other individuals allegedly involved in the confrontation.
Ekiti Police Commissioner Orders Investigation
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, CP Falade Adegoroye Michael, directed officers to conduct a discreet and comprehensive investigation.
The investigation is expected to establish what happened, identify everyone involved and determine whether anyone committed an offence.
The police commissioner also directed that anyone found culpable should face appropriate legal consequences.
Meanwhile, the Command assured residents that security conditions in Ado-Ekiti and surrounding communities remained calm.
It said officers had intensified patrols, surveillance and intelligence-led operations in identified security hotspots.
The police also advised residents to avoid spreading unverified reports circulating on social media and instead rely on credible information from official sources.
The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting residents, visitors and political stakeholders regardless of their political affiliations or public standing.
