Naomi Silekunola Ogunwusi, the Estranged Wife of the Ooni of Ife, Demands Retraction, Apology, and 50 Million Naira in Damages from Bloggers Over Viral Video Misrepresentation
Queen Naomi, the estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, has demanded a public apology and retraction from gospel musician and content creator Olufunke Ayokunle for sharing an old video of her dancing after the recent deadly stampede incident in Ibadan, Oyo State. The video, originally recorded in 2022, was falsely presented as recent, causing backlash just days after Naomi’s release on bail in connection with the December 18, 2024, stampede that claimed the lives of 35 children in Ibadan.
The letter sent by Naomi’s lawyers stated that the video, shared by Ayokunle on January 16, 2025, has led to widespread negative publicity. It misled figures such as APC chieftains and others into believing Naomi was unsympathetic to the victims’ families.
Her lawyers have demanded an immediate retraction of the video, a public apology, and the payment of 50 million Naira in damages within seven days. Queen Naomi asserts that Ayokunle was aware of the video’s original date but chose to share it, resulting in unwarranted criticism and emotional distress. The letter was also sent to Igbokwe and Abati for their attention.
Failure to comply with the demands could result in legal action. Queen Naomi emphasized that the video had no connection to recent events, as it was taken over two years ago.
