Police arrest teacher for allegedly raping 10-yr-old pupil

A primary school teacher in Aba, identified as Mr. Nathaniel, is currently at the detention facility of the Aba Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force for allegedly having carnal knowledge of a 10-year-old female pupil in his class.

It was gathered that Nathaniel who teaches in one of the private schools in Aba the commercial nerve of Abia State, threatened to deal with the child if she ever mentioned it to her parents.

However, victim was said to have summoned the courage last week and narrated the incident to her mother.

Confirming the illicit activities of the classroom teacher, the victim’s father Mr. Ignatius Onyechekwe stated that they took their daughter to a popular private hospital off Georges Road in Aba where it was confirmed that there was penetration in her private part.

It gathered also from a close family source of the victim, that the teacher started abusing his pupil since January this year.

Also the school proprietor, Pastor Israel Chibunna confirmed that the teacher is being detained at the Aba Area Command where he is being investigated by the police on the claims by the Onyechekwe’s family that the staff raped their daughter.

Chibunna stated that his staff had in response to the query issued to him denied ever committing such act.

The proprietor disclosed further that the staff has been suspended from work pending the conclusion of the matter, as the police was still investigating the allegation.

The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Geoffrey Ogbonna who confirmed the arrest and detention of Mr. Nathaniel in their custody, added that the suspect will be taken to court as soon as investigation into the matter was concluded.

Ogbonna informed that investigation into the matter is still ongoing as the police await the outcome of the medical report from the police clinic.

However, it was gathered that the case is also being handled by the human rights section of the Aba Area Command, as at the time of filing this report.
