The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has appointed former House of Representatives member Ifeanyi Ibezi to coordinate its campaign in Anambra State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The appointment places Ibezi at the centre of the party’s efforts to mobilise voters for its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in his home state.
Ibezi previously supported Anambra State Governor Chukwuma Soludo and his All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA). He recently defected to the NDC at a rally attended by party supporters.
His appointment signals the NDC’s push to expand its political influence in Anambra and secure a strong showing for Obi and other party candidates.
NDC Campaign Coordinator Targets Anambra’s 21 LGAs
Following his appointment, Ibezi urged Anambra residents to support Obi and help deliver a decisive victory for the NDC in 2027.
In a statement released on Tuesday and made available to journalists, he acknowledged the scale of the task facing the campaign team. However, he pledged to take the party’s message across the state.
Ibezi said the campaign would reach all 21 local government areas, 326 political wards and 5,720 polling units. The team also plans to engage residents through markets, churches, town union meetings and household visits.
He stressed that the party wants more than a victory in Obi’s home state. According to him, the number of valid votes cast for the presidential candidate will also matter.
“Anambra occupies a peculiar place in this campaign,” Ibezi said, noting the expectations surrounding Obi’s home state.
He added that the campaign team must work towards a strong mandate that reflects the support voters give the candidate at the ballot box.
Ibezi Calls for Voter Mobilisation Ahead of 2027
The NDC coordinator said the campaign would focus on reaching undecided voters and people who have lost confidence in the electoral process.
He argued that the party must listen to residents who feel neglected or believe their votes cannot bring meaningful change.
Ibezi said the campaign team would seek to rebuild their confidence and encourage them to participate in the election.
He also emphasised the need to protect the integrity of the voting process and ensure that valid votes reflect the wishes of the electorate.
“The future of our country is too important to be surrendered to apathy,” he said, urging party members to begin mobilisation without delay.
NDC Seeks Stronger Position in Anambra
Ibezi’s appointment marks a new phase in the NDC’s preparations for the 2027 general elections in Anambra State.
The party intends to strengthen its grassroots presence and engage voters across communities before election day.
His previous association with Soludo and APGA also gives the appointment added political significance as parties prepare for the next electoral contest.
However, the NDC’s success will depend on its ability to turn its mobilisation plans into voter support and valid votes at the polls.
Ibezi said his team would work across the state to promote Obi and other NDC candidates, with the goal of securing a strong mandate in 2027.
