The Pan Remo Movement (PRM) has called on political leaders and governorship aspirants from Remoland to respect what it described as an existing zoning understanding ahead of the 2027 Ogun State governorship election.
The sociocultural group said Remo should support a shift of power to Ogun West, particularly the Yewa area, in the interest of equity and political inclusion.
PRM made its position known in a statement signed by its President, Otunba ’Poju Akintayo-Ayodele, and General Secretary, Oloye Tunde Adekoya.
PRM Cites Remo’s 16 Years in Office
The group said Remo has produced two governors since Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999.
It identified former Governor Gbenga Daniel and incumbent Governor Dapo Abiodun as the two Remo politicians who have occupied the governorship.
According to PRM, the two administrations account for 16 of the 28 years of democratic rule in the state.
The group therefore argued that Remo should reciprocate the support it received from other parts of Ogun State by allowing another zone to produce the next governor.
PRM specifically pointed to Ogun West, saying Yewa deserves an opportunity to lead the state.
Group Appeals to Remo Politicians
The movement urged Remo political leaders and aspirants to consider the wider interests of the zone instead of individual ambitions.
It warned that any attempt to disrupt the zoning arrangement could affect the trust and goodwill among Ogun State’s political blocs.
PRM also appealed to traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders in Remoland to support what it described as a fair and inclusive political arrangement.
The group said political agreements depend on trust, reciprocity and mutual respect.
It further argued that Remo’s future political relationships with other zones could be affected if it is seen as unwilling to support similar aspirations from elsewhere.
Ogun West Seeks Governorship Opportunity
PRM maintained that Ogun West should be given an opportunity to produce the governor.
The group said the issue should not centre on the ambition of a particular politician. Instead, it should be viewed through the broader questions of equity, inclusion and political accommodation.
Ogun West has remained central to the zoning debate ahead of 2027. The district is the only one of Ogun’s three senatorial districts that has not produced a governor since the state was created.
The group’s call comes amid wider political discussions over the succession to Governor Dapo Abiodun.
The APC has already produced Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election. Adeola represents Ogun West in the Senate.
PRM Plans Annual Pan Remo Forum
The Pan Remo Movement also announced plans to hold its 2026 Pan Remo Forum.
According to the group, the forum will address issues surrounding peaceful coexistence and political relationships among Ogun’s different zones.
PRM said discussions would focus on preserving goodwill before, during and after the 2027 general elections.
The group urged stakeholders to consider the long-term stability of Ogun State as political activities intensify ahead of the election.
