The Edo State Governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, has urged citizens to continue to obey laid down laws and regulations, and contribute their quota towards the development of the state.
Obaseki made the call when he received the executive members of the Police Officers Wives Association (POWA), Edo State Chapter, who were on a courtesy visit at the Government House, Benin City.
Obaseki, represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Osaigbovo Iyoha, noted that in running an open and transparent government, his administration will continue to maintain law and order in the state.
According to him, “The Edo State Government, in all its dealings, is transparent, accountable and open, and will never witch hunt anyone. The government does its best to ensure that all citizens comply with the laws governing the State.”
The governor said the demolition of some lock-up stores at Iyekogba Housing Estate in Benin City was never to witch-hunt or punish anyone but to ensure that all, irrespective of position, respects, obeys and complies with the laws governing the State.
“Your presence here today should be to apologise to the Edo State Government and not to demand compensation for breaking the law.”
Earlier, the Chairperson of POWA, Edo State Chapter, Mrs. Evelyn Aliu, who led the delegation, urged the government to compensate POWA for the loss they incurred with the demolition of the lock-up stores at the estate.
