E247MAG reports that veteran Nollywood actor Davis Offor, widely celebrated for his unforgettable role as Clarus in the classic Nigerian sitcom The New Masquerade, has passed away at the age of 85.

The news of his death was confirmed by his longtime colleague on the show, Dr. Tony Akposheri, popularly known as Zacky, in a conversation with Emdee David.

Offor rose to national prominence during the golden era of Nigerian television in the 1980s and early 1990s, where his portrayal of the naive yet endearing houseboy Clarus earned him a permanent place in the hearts of viewers. Acting alongside legends such as Chief Zebrudaya, played by Chika Okpala, and Gringory Akabuogu, portrayed by the late James Iroha, Clarus became a defining character in a show that remains one of Nigeria’s most beloved sitcoms.

After achieving widespread fame in comedy, Offor took a different path, dedicating his life to spiritual service. He became an ordained minister with the London-based Aetherius Temple and spent more than 25 years delivering weekly teachings, touching lives through his commitment to faith and guidance.

In his later years, Offor faced significant health challenges, including long-term visual impairment that led to blindness. He was also battling prostate cancer, which he managed until his final days. Though he resided in Aba, Abia State, he had traveled to Lagos to visit his son, where he eventually passed away.

As a key member of the original The New Masquerade cast, Offor stood alongside iconic figures such as Ovuleria and Jegede Shokoya, contributing to a cultural legacy that shaped Nigerian entertainment. His death marks the end of an era, leaving behind a body of work that continues to inspire and entertain generations.
